The wait is almost over for Northwood’s ski team! With skis being packed and excitement building, the Huskies are preparing to travel to Copper Mountain, Colorado, for two weeks of training from the 8th to the 23rd of November.
For some athletes, the camp will be their first opportunity to ski this season. For others, it will be a chance to continue building on their training in Chile and prepare for the upcoming North American racing season.
Copper Mountain attracts some of the world’s most accomplished alpine racers. During previous camps, Northwood athletes have encountered World Cup stars Marco Odermatt and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and trained near members of the U.S. Ski Team. Both Odermatt and Kilde competed at Copper Mountain during the 2025 World Cup season.
Director of Snow Sports and Interim Head FIS Men’s Alpine Coach Mr. Julien Cousineau said the team will continue building on the work completed during its Chile camp, with a particular emphasis on skiing technique.
Cousineau was pleased with the results of the team’s latest physical testing and believes the athletes are arriving at camp in good condition. One of his primary goals is to help them perform under pressure. In technical alpine events, racers have only two competitive runs, making consistency and execution essential.
Jackson Magnus ’27 has attended the Copper Mountain camp six times. Although the trip is familiar to him, he is excited to return to the slopes and train in giant slalom. Magnus has been following the weather forecast and believes the snow conditions could be better than last year.
For Emmett Fox ’27, the camp will be his first time skiing since April because he could not attend the team’s training camp in Chile. Fox is looking forward to returning to his skis, continuing the work he began last season and spending time in Copper Village.
Eleanor “Ollie” Boutelle ’28 is also excited to return to snow after missing the Chile camp. She is looking forward to skiing and spending time with her teammates. Another highlight will be celebrating her birthday at Copper Mountain. For Boutelle, spending her birthday at camp is special because she can celebrate with close friends while participating in the sport she loves.
Although each athlete is anticipating a different part of the trip, the team is looking forward to a productive two weeks in Colorado. With the racing season approaching, the camp will give Northwood’s skiers an opportunity to improve their technique, reconnect with teammates and enjoy returning to snow.
