Ryan Demers ’27 is a senior in his third year at Northwood School. Originally from Chazy, New York, Demers is captain of the varsity hockey team and hopes to continue his athletic career in college.
During his time at Northwood, Demers has formed friendships and created memories that have made his experience special. His favorite memory comes from his first year, when he shared a triple room with his friends Henrik Hinse ’27 and Anton Stackow ’26.

“My best experience at Northwood is my room my first year,” Demers said. “I was in the triple with Henrik and Anton, and we always had guys hanging out in there with us.”
The room became a popular gathering place among their friends, earning the nickname “Social Room.”
“We had three consoles, so people were always playing Fortnite together,” Demers said. “We also just liked to chill and talk in between or after classes.”
For Demers, having a place where friends could regularly gather made his first year at Northwood particularly memorable.
“You could always count on walking in and people being in there, which was nice,” he said.
One fact that many people may not know about Demers is that he is colorblind, which sometimes presents challenges in his daily life.
“I am colorblind,” Demers said. “It affects me sometimes when I play hockey or have to do an art project.”
Demers chose Northwood because of his family’s connection to the school and the opportunity to develop as a hockey player.
“My sister, Katie Demers ’24, came to Northwood, and I wanted to play hockey at a higher level than where I was,” he said.
Outside of school, Demers enjoys spending time outdoors, playing sports and being with friends.
“I enjoy the outdoors, whether it’s throwing a baseball, playing soccer or hanging out with friends,” he said.
Goals After Northwood
After graduating from Northwood, Demers plans to spend a year playing junior hockey. He then hopes to attend college, continue his hockey career and pursue a degree in business or construction management.
