Halloween gives students an opportunity to dress up, spend time with friends and participate in activities across campus. This year, Northwood is planning several events for Monday, Nov. 2, intended to bring the community together including Northwood’s Halloween traditions: a haunted house and dance following a special dinner.
“After dinner, we will have a haunted house, followed by a dance,” Ryan Demers ’27 said.
The dance will give students an opportunity to wear costumes and spend time together, while the haunted house will provide another activity for students and their friends.
Students can also send Candy-Grams to friends and other members of the Northwood community. The activity allows students to show their appreciation by sending candy to one another. A costume competition will add another element to the celebration.
“This year, we will have a costume day the Monday after Halloween. We will be allowed to wear costumes after class,” Demers said.
Halloween decorations will also help transform the campus for the celebration. Director of Residential Life Mr. Marvyn Dorchin said the decorations will include inflatable Halloween characters and artificial spiderwebs.
“We have some blow-up, Halloween-themed characters and some spiderwebs,” Dorchin said.
A carved pumpkin will also be displayed at Northwood’s main entrance. Dorchin said the most extensive decorations will be placed around the haunted house and dance.
“The biggest decoration part is really going to happen on Monday at the haunted house in the academic building and the dance party in the dining hall,” Dorchin said.
With costumes, candy, decorations and community activities, Northwood’s Halloween celebration will give students several opportunities to spend time with friends and enjoy the holiday.
