Northwood’s prep hockey, U19 soccer and U17 soccer teams traveled to South Kent this past weekend, Oct 10-11, to compete against several opponents, coming back with at least three wins against the host school during their Family Weekend.

The road trip gave the three teams an opportunity to compete, build momentum and continue their respective seasons.

Prep Hockey

Prep hockey had a slow start to the weekend.

“The 5-hour trip just made us have tight legs”, said Mark Tverskoy ’27.

The addition of three new players affected the team’s performance, allowing Nor’easter to take advantage and earn a 5-1 victory.

Northwood turned its weekend around Saturday with a victory over the New Jersey Rockets.

“Saturday was a lot better”, Tverskoy said. “There was a different energy on the bench. Everyone was supporting each other. It was a whole-team win”.

Kelly Matozzo ’28 scored two goals, while Ewan Findlater ’27 recorded a shutout to give Northwood a 2-0 victory.

Prep carried that momentum into Sunday’s game against hosting team South Kent, another member of the Prep Hockey Conference. Northwood earned a 5-3 victory behind two goals from Jaxon Dennis ’28 and three points from Jack Pitts ’27.

The victory gave the team confidence as it looked ahead to its next meeting with South Kent.

“It definitely gives us confidence, and we are excited to see them again”, Tverskoy said.

U19 Soccer

The U19 soccer team opened its weekend with a 5-2 victory over South Kent. Samuel Andoh ’28 scored two goals to help lead the comeback.

The team initially trailed 1-0, but “after showing a lot of grit, we came back and ended up winning the game”, Will German ’27 said.

The U19s continued their successful weekend with a 3-0 victory over Masters Academy.“The team played great from start to finish. Everyone was contributing”, German said.

The U19 team finished the weekend with a 2-0 record and will look to continue its winning streak as the season progresses.

U17 Soccer

The U17 soccer team also began the weekend with a victory, defeating South Kent 3-1. Jeon Wolfe ’29 scored two goals.

“They were good. They usually have a good team”, Jeremiah Siegal ’29 said.

The U17s then faced Connecticut United’s U19 MLS NEXT team Sunday.

“On Sunday, we had a really hard opponent, Connecticut United MLS NEXT under-19s”, Siegal said. “We put up a good fight, but they just outsized us”.

Siegal said Northwood was proud of its performance and kept the game close during the opening 30 minutes. Ultimately, Connecticut United pulled away to earn a 7-0 victory.

Although the teams experienced different results, the weekend gave all three an opportunity to compete against strong opponents and prepare for the remainder of their seasons.
