Each year, Northwood hosts Pink the Rink and Pink the Pitch to raise awareness about breast cancer. This year, the school is expanding the initiative under a new name: Huskies Fight Cancer.

Cancer has affected many members of the Northwood community, including Miles Van Mullen ’27, whose uncle died from brain cancer.

“Cancer had an emotional effect on me when my uncle passed away from brain cancer,” Van Mullen said. “My uncle impacted me by being a role model and a person for all to look up to.”

Casey Morrissey ’27 has also been affected by cancer. His grandfather died from intestinal cancer.

“This has impacted me by stealing someone who was a very important person in everybody else’s lives,” Morrissey said. “I feel I was robbed”.

Morrissey said he tries to follow his grandfather’s example.

“My grandpa had a special talent for making everybody around him feel included and happy, so I try to be the same,” he said.

In previous years, Northwood’s awareness events focused primarily on breast cancer. Huskies Fight Cancer will recognize people affected by all forms of the disease while continuing to emphasize the importance of breast cancer awareness.

Huskies Fight Cancer will take place Oct. 2-3, during Northwood’s Family Weekend. Players, students and spectators are encouraged to wear purple or pink and support the Huskies:
