Girls Win Two in Strange Weekend

This weekend (Oct. 8-9) the girls took on the Vermont Shamrocks. It was not your usual hockey game because the Shamrocks did not have enough girls to compete, and seeing as it was Family Weekend, Head Coach Lucy Schoedel came up with a creative solution: she had some of the Northwood players dress and play with the Shamrocks. Instead of one game, the teams decided to play two mini games, each consisting of two fifteen minute periods.  In the first game, Sara Donatello (defense, 2018), Zoe VandeKieft (forward, 2018), Kylie Kroes (forward, 2018) and Sierra Benjamin (forward/defense, 2018)  played for the Shamrocks.  And in the second game, those players returned to the Northwood bench and Issy Ren (forward, 2017), Abby Hatcher (forward, 2018), and Saara Keranen (defense, 2017) switched over to the VT side.  Ashley Davis (2017) played both games in net for VT and played exceptionally well.

Schoedel said, “I’m glad we were able to get all of our healthy players some ice time this weekend, especially with so many families in the stands. There was a ton of Northwood support in the stands, and I know the entire team is grateful for everybody who came out to watch. It means a lot.” Northwood won the first mini-game 1-0.  Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) scored the only goal with an assist from Lauren Klein (Forward, 2017).  Courtney Fairchild (2020) turned aside all 8 shots in her Northwood debut. The Huskies won the second mini-game 4-0.  Kelsey Bannister (Forward, 2017), Lauren Klein, and Moe Tsukiimoto (2) scored goals for Northwood.
