The 16u hockey team won both of their first two contests this weekend against the Ottawa Sharpshooters. In the first game the Huskies came away with a 5-0 win and Verteri Virtanen (2019) recorded the shutout.
In the second game the boys won 4-3 as Brian Saunders (2019) made 14 stops in the win. Cody Monds (Forward, 2020) led the scoring with 5 goals, Nate Boak (Defense, 2020) recorded 4 assists, Sean Bunting (Forward, 2019) had 4 points (2G,2A), Weston Batt (Forward, 2019) had 3 assists, Zach Ellsworth (Defense, 2019) had 3 points (1G,2A), Will Aqquiett (Forward, 2019) and John Biechler (Forward, 2019) each had 2 assists, and Daniel Fagan (Forward, 2019) struck for one goal.
Head Coach Trevor Gilligan said, “I was pleased with our start to the season. With limited practice, the boys showed a solid and consistent level of compete through two games. We were able to capitalize earlier in Saturday’s game, taking advantage of the Olympic ice surface. Sunday, on a smaller sheet, we struggled to find a rhythm in a penalty-plagued game, but we were able to claw back in the third period, scoring three goals to get the win. I felt the comeback on Sunday was great for our team morale moving forward.”
