Girls Hockey Takes Two in Season Opener in Ottawa

The Huskies kicked off their season this weekend (Sep 17-18) in Ottawa with two wins. On Saturday they faced off against the Ottawa Ice, and blanked them 2-0. Ashley Davis (2017) stood tall between the pipes recording her first shutout of the season, and Lauren Klein (Forward, 2017) and Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) struck for the Husky goals.

On Sunday, the girls took on the Ottawa 67’s and prevailed with a 2-1 victory, while Tsukimoto and Klein combined for both Husky goals again. Tsukimoto and Klein finished the weekend with 3 points each (2G, 1A). Hanna Rose (Defense, 2018), Kira Collins (Forward 2017), and Keeley Rose (Defense 2018) also collected one assist a piece.

Head coach Lucy Schoedel was very pleased with her team’s efforts saying, “both teams we were up against were strong. She was “impressed with the way that the team was able to come right out of the gates early on in the season and string together two complete games.” This is a very different team than last year, with a lot of new faces, and Schoedel was impressed with the leadership that her senior class has shown so far and the way the the strong junior class has stepped up and become comfortable in their leadership role as upperclassmen and third year players.

The girls are back on the road in Syracuse next weekend to take on the Niagara Junior Purple Eagles, a team they will likely see again in states.
