U16 Ski Racers Earn Podiums at States

The U16 team traveled to West and Gore Mountains for States Championships. The team consisted of Imani Hawman ‘20, Ava Day ‘21, Ana Spencer ‘20, Amelia Brady ‘21, Audrey Higgins-Lopez ‘21, and Gabrielle Cote ‘20 on the women’s side and Zach Zientko ‘21, Martin McDonough ‘20, Ben DeGirolamo ‘21 and Magnus Sheffield ‘20 on the men’s side.  

The first day was Slalom at West Mountain, Hawman finished 10th and Day 12th. On the men’s side Degirolamo finished in first, Sheffield 3rd, Zientko 4th, and McDonough 5th. The second day was giant-slalom, and Higgins-Lopez finished third, Cote 4th, and Day 5th. On the men’s side, Zientko finished 5th and McDonough 7th.

The last day was expected to be super-G, but there was not enough snow to make it happen. The skiers had to race another Slalom, but this time at Gore. On the women’s side Higgins-Lopez finished 2nd and Cote 3rd. On the men’s side, Degirolamo finished in 1st, Sheffield in 3rd, and Zientko in 7th.

These results qualified Ava Day, Audrey-Higgins Lopez , Gabrielle Cote, Martin McDonough, Ben Degirolamo, Zach Zientko and Magnus Sheffield for U16 Easterns at Stowe.
