Wiseguys Sports Bar has been a Friday night home for me and some of the other guys on the Junior Hockey Team and is my favorite place to watch sports, especially hockey, in Lake Placid. The menu and decor may remind you of the Buffalo Wild Wings chain. Wise guys has great wings, and abundant TVs playing sports. Back home, Buffalo Wild Wings was often the place I would go to watch sports over dinner, this year Wiseguys has been my place to do that in Lake Placid.
Wiseguys has the classic American sports bar feel. Upon walking through the door, there is a pool table and, the bar to the right having several high-top tables set before it. As you move towards the back of the restaurant, there are a few low bigger tables for larger parties, and a back wall of 4-person booths. Wiseguys has several TVs as well. Some are mounted high on the wall or bar, but the best TVs in my opinion are the ones in the booths. Each booth has its own TV at the end of the table, which is one of my favorite features of the restaurant.
The choices for a meal at Wiseguys vary. They offer most classic American appetizers. They serve wings, nachos, quesadillas and other typical bar fare. Also, upon sitting down your server will bring you a basket of popcorn for the table. The best appetizer, in my opinion, is a plate of hot wings. The wings are not very hot however, so if you are looking for a lot of heat, you may want to order one up. The very delicious wings are covered in sauce and have plenty of meat on the bones.
Wiseguys also offers a variety of entrees. On the menu are soups, salads, cold and hot sandwiches, wraps, and signature dishes. The best dish in my opinion is the Wiseguys Alfredo. It is penne pasta in a creamy alfredo sauce with your choice of grilled or cajun chicken. On the side is also toasted thickly cut white bread which is delicious dipped in the alfredo sauce. My favorite sandwich is the Reuben. The pastrami is cut very thick, and the bread and cheese are grilled so well they almost melt together.
A little more than a mile from school, Wiseguys is walking distance from Northwood, but I recommend a cab during cold winter nights.
