Junior Team Undefeated in Junior Bruins Shootout

(September 21-22, 2018), Northwood’s Junior Hockey Team traveled to Boston, MA to participate in Junior Bruins Shootout, and ended the weekend with a record of 1-0-2.

The first game against Beantown Blue was scoreless for both teams until four minutes left in the first period when Beantown blue netted the first goal of the game. The second period had more scoring opportunities for the Huskies. Stephen Panico ‘19 (Forward), and Cody Monds ‘19 (Forward) each scored a goal, making the game tied at two. With ten minutes left of the game, Jared Lambright ‘20 (Defense) put one on the board making the score 3-2. However, Beantown wasn’t ready to take a loss. With five minutes left, they tallied one on the board tying the game 3-3.

In the second game against Skipjacks U18, the Huskies dominated the play from the start when Monds netted the first goal of the game. Just a couple minutes later, Cole Leal ‘19 (Defense) and Elijah Deveraux ‘20 (Forward) each netted a goal, pushing the score up to 3-0. Toward the end of the period, Monds got his second goal of the game. However, in the last minute of the first period, the Skipjacks put one on the board, making the score 4-1. In the second, neither of the teams had many scoring opportunities. The third period made the Skipjacks hungry for goals when, in the first couple of minutes, they added another tally, making the score 4-2. For the Skipjacks, one goal wasn’t enough. At the end of the third, they added another goal, ending the game with the score at 4-3.

The last game of the weekend facing the Little Bruins U18 started with few scoring opportunities in the first period. In the second, the period started off in the favor of the Huskies when, with three minutes left, Fin Ulrick ‘19 (Forward) put one in the net, causing the score to go to 1-0. However, the Little Bruins ended the period by tying it up 1-1. The third period with a goal from Reid Leibold ‘20 (Forward), making the score 2-1. About eight minutes later, the Little Bruins scored, tying the game at two. The Huskies fought back. Tommy Bannister ‘20 (Forward) netted the third goal of the game, putting the Huskies in the lead. In the last thirty seconds of the game, the Little Bruins put one in the net, ending the game with a tie at three.

With this weekend’s record, the Junior Team is at 4-1-2 on the season. The teams next set of games is this weekend, at home, vs the Jr. Islanders.
