Dorm Room Tour: Rylie Griffiths ’26

This article is part of a series of dorm room tours. See more tours here.

Rylie Griffiths is a second-year postgraduate from Carlisle, Ontario. Rylie lives on Ground West—commonly known as Pit—in a single, where she also serves as an RA and is known for her spotless room whenever you open the door. Here is an inside look!

Rylie’s room is very tidy, and she always has a perfectly made bed. She starts each morning by making her bed—it makes her feel accomplished and that no matter what happens next, she started her day off right. On her wall, there are two posters, both color coordinated with her bed covers. They have quotes that she can look at and be inspired by every day, reminding her of how lucky she is to be here and how fortunate she is to be doing what makes her happy: playing hockey. Under her bed there is additional storage.

Next up is Rylie’s snack drawer. She is always fully stocked with healthy food and is always willing to share with anyone who asks. Her favorite pick from the drawer is her protein cereal, which she says is the perfect go-to when she needs a pre-practice boost. Whether it is before practice, during late-night study sessions, or just hanging out with teammates, her snack drawer has the perfect option.

Rylie describes her closet as the favorite part of her room. Clearly, Rylie loves sweaters. She says they’re perfect for all occasions, whether it’s school or game days. She also loves the connection with her teammates, where anyone can stop in and ask her to borrow a sweater, and she can stop into her teammates’ room and do the same thing.

Lastly, there is her desk, which is also always clean. She says this is the best place where she can focus and complete her homework. Then she just has her essential day-to-day things and a rack with all her jewelry. Above her desk is her Northwood pennant, which illustrates how much pride in Northwood she has.

Dorm room Tour: Flo Richard ‘25

Welcome to Florence Richard’s room. Florence is a first-year senior from Quebec, Canada. At Northwood, she does crew and ski in the winter with the REC ski club. Florence lives in a basic single on First West. Here’s the tour!

Florence always keeps her room neat. She makes her bed every morning, ensuring a fresh start to the day. Before going to bed, she always tries to clean up any clutter or clothes lying around. Though Florence’s room is smaller than at home, she makes it work. She has a lamp that creates a warm ambiance at night, which is her favorite thing about this room.

This wall is made up of Florence’s favorite things. She loves coffee, so she has a coffee bean plushie and a coffee poster bought during the trip with Japan LEAP. In Japan, Florence also collected several postcards of castles and temples. In addition to the wall, there are pictures of her favorite people, including Polaroids with her best friends, and a poster of her favorite artist, Zach Bryan.

Florence played Rugby for four years before coming to Northwood. The rugby ball reminds her of the sport, storing memories of her old games and practices. Moreover, Florence has two Lego flowers in her room. She loves flowers, so these permanent flowers bring her joy and comfort.

Since Florence’s bed is next to the window, she often enjoys the natural light and has a direct view of the front of the school. She likes how her bed is positioned this way as it opens up the space in her single. On the bed are three plushies that Florence got from her best friend, and they will be next to her as she winds down for the day.

Dorm Room Tour: The Heart of Second East

It was difficult to decide which room was the best on East, but the boys on campus believe that room 249, which houses Shane Tronoski ’25 and Ty Simonet ‘25, is the all-around most complete room in the East dormitory.

The key factors that were in consideration were ambiance, inclusivity, how comfortable the room was, and its overall reputation on the hall. Room 249 is a gathering place during periods for many people that live in Bergamini, and it is always open for anyone who wants to stop by and chill. The room has a great ambiance thanks to the LED lights on the ceiling along with the Sweats and Jawn’s neon sign on the back wall of the room. But this room isn’t only special because of the way it looks; it is special because two lifelong best friends live in it together. Shane and Ty grew up playing together and are both from the Philly area. As a returner, Shane had the option to get his own room, but he chose to have Ty as a roommate instead.

Room 249 is considered one of the most comfortable rooms on campus because of the area rug that covers up the wood floor, the massage pad that is propped up on the dresser, and the fact that the beds are always made and neat. Shane and Ty make it a top priority to keep the room clean, and they expect anyone who comes in to treat their room with respect.

Lastly, room 249 gets a lot of respect from the rest of the residents on Second East. Once the clock hits 10:30 pm, or even a little earlier, there won’t be any noise coming out of the room. This continues with the theme of respect on the hall. There may be a SpongeBob episode on, but Shane and Ty make sure to always respect their neighbors and other fellow residents.

Dorm Room Tour: Natalie Geackle’s Room

Welcome to Natalie Gaeckle’s room. Natalie is a senior ski racer from New Jersey. This year is her first time living away from home and boarding at Northwood School. Natalie lives in a single room on Second West, where she has added many items and decorations to make it like home.

Photo: Jenny Tran ’25.

These are posters of the album, Blonde, by Frank Ocean, one of Natalie’s favorite artists.  Last Christmas, the ski team held a Secret Santa gift exchange, and Natalie received these two posters from Leanne Aubut-Laurin as one of her gifts.

Photo: Jenny Tran ’25.

This is a poster of the sunset in Chile, where Natalie went with her ski team earlier in the year. Natalie’s dad has always made collages of her family’s adventures, and he has created this one from Chile using the sunset picture that Natalie had sent him.

Photo: Jenny Tran ’25.

Natalie’s favorite part of the room is her bed. She is proud of how comfortable it is; she thinks all her friends would also agree. She has two mattress toppers, many plushies, and big fuzzy blankets, making her bed perfectly cozy.

Natalie has had this stuffed animal since she was very young. She brings it everywhere, including the ski camps this year: Chile and Copper.

This is where Natalie puts her snacks. Her dad often sends her cookies and other snacks, even when she doesn’t ask for them. Natalie tries to keep this snack cupboard full in case she is hungry or has cravings.

This is the view from her room. Natalie gets to see the turf and the front of the school, which she enjoys. During the day, the natural light hits her room, so she always has her shades open to enjoy the sun.

Dorm Tour: Sophia Miller ‘24

Sophia Miller is a Senior from Sun Valley, Idaho. This is her first year at Northwood and her first time at a boarding school far away from home. She lives in a basic single room on Second West. Here is a little tour!

Sophia loves music. Her record wall is full of old vinyl, which was given to her by her dad. Every time she walks into her room, it reminds her of home. Her favorite one is The New England Express album.

On this wall is the Taylor Swift Eras Tour Poster that Sophia got when she saw her live in Seattle. Below the poster is a dream catcher she has had since she was younger; it has been in every room she has lived in. Her pink Squish Mellow was a gift from her best friend, Mia, back at home. The bouquet of dried flowers was a gift from Mia’s mom, and they serve as a token of remembrance from their Eras Tour trip.

Sophia bought this tapestry from a small shop in Idaho. This little decoration fills up the empty space in her room and makes it feel cozier. Below are more record sleeves, also given to her by her dad. Also pictured is her beloved Airpod Max, which she never leaves without. They come with her to every class, every gym session, and every travel, no matter what.

Sophia’s room is filled with love, whether from her parents or friends. It is a welcoming and unique space for her. She loves to have visitors at any hour of the day. Her room is the spot to be.

Dorm Room Tour: Jenny Tran’ 25

Jenny Tran is a Junior from Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam. This is her second year at Northwood and studying in the States. Jenny lives in a basic single room on First West. Here is a quick tour of her room!

Photo: Avery Novia ’24.

Jenny’s snack shelf is always brimming with her favorite, Pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup that reminds her of home. She buys different things every week, not just for herself, but to share with her friends, who love to raid her collection whenever possible.

Photo: Avery Novia ’24.

Her memory wall lives right above her bed. She started collecting pictures, letters, tickets, and other small sentimental things at the beginning of this school year. Her favorite things in her collection are her plane tickets because they remind her of her travels. She also likes the pictures of her and her friends from back home. They live so far away, and looking up is always a friendly reminder of their presence in her life.

Photo: Avery Novia ’24.

Jenny gets ready every morning and puts her jewelry in the mirror. Above it are posters that remind her to stay positive and motivated throughout the day. She loves jewelry, and last year, in her art class, she made her own dish to hold all her rings.

Photo: Avery Novia ’24.

On the left are all of Jenny’s pieces created before she came to Northwood. She used to draw and paint a lot growing up. On the right side of the wall are a couple of posters she bought as souvenirs in South Korea. She also has other pieces found at thrift stores and art galleries.

As you can see, Jenny has LED lights and a sunset lamp that are always on, creating a nice ambiance for studying and relaxing. The things Jenny has collected and how she has set up her room are tokens of who she is. It is a welcoming space that is unique to her.

Dorm Room Tour: Maegan Byrne ‘24

Welcome to Maegan Bryne’s dorm room tour. Meghan is a senior from Saratoga Springs, NY,  and lives in a single on ground west!

Maegan chose a pink color theme for her room because it is one of her favorite colors.

Maegan got the inspiration for her room from Pinterest. She wanted to add pictures over her bed to make it cozier.

Maegan also put up a poster of Elon where she will be attending next year.

Dorm Room Tour: Cedric Lemaire ‘25

Cedric Lemaire ’25. Photo by Mr. Michael Aldridge.

Cedric Lemaire ‘25 is passionate about his dorm room. He has many items around his room to make it feel “homey” and comfortable. Throughout his three years at Northwood, he has changed his room often and had many new additions. Over the summer, Cedric volunteered at a church that had storage for kids who went to boarding school to store away their dorm room things over the summer. The church offered him the chance to choose anything from the storage other kids didn’t want anymore. That is where some of Cedric’s items are from. He has posters from traveling, cleats from over the years, etc.

This is Cedric’s first year in a single and he loves it. Although having a roommate was fun the previous two years, he could never fully arrange the room how he wanted, put up posters where he wanted, and it never completely had that homey feel he was looking for. This year, he gets to completely customize his room. He likes the shape of his room this year and will request the same room next year.

This is a poster from Göteborg, Sweden. Cedric traveled there when he was twelve years old for a soccer tournament.

Here’s Cedric’s bed. He lofted it to have space under it to create a whole new space that is blocked off from the rest of the room. This little lounge area has a different vibe from the rest of his room, and he likes to use it for video games or chilling after school if he has nothing to do and wants some chill time.

Cedric uses these four cleats equally throughout the year for games and training. Some have spikes and some have more rounded buds and are better for indoor soccer. He has obtained all of these throughout his past three years at Northwood. His favorite brand for cleats is Nike because they’re just the most comfortable for him.

This is what’s on top of his dresser. He has things like watches, cologne, OLLY gummies, plants, etc… Cedric has some things just for the look, like cool toy cars and a little turtle. Above his dresser, next to the whiteboard, there is a piece of paper that has his team’s core values on it. The whole team worked on it at the beginning of the year, and the design was Cedric’s original first pick. These values mean a lot to Cedric and Northwood’s soccer team.

Most people think the view from Cedric’s room is one of the best at the school. He gets to see the sky during sunsets and sunrises very well because he’s on the third floor, and the angle is nice because he can see everything that’s going on between the academic building and the main building.

Dorm Room Tour: Ceddy ’24 and Mitch ’25

Welcome to the room of Mitchell Baker ‘25, of Australia, and Cedric Lemaire ‘24, of Massachusetts. These students are part of the Soccer team, with Cedric, who goes by the name of Ceddy, being on the U19 team and Mitchell, who goes by Mitch, being on the U17 team. Their dorm is located on the second floor of Bergamini dormitory.

Their room has an interesting mix of personalities, with Mitch having a more simplistic design and Ceddy having a more creative style. Ceddy’s side consists of records on the wall with posters and fairy lights that he thrifted. Ceddy’s desk consists of a rock lamp, an hourglass, and a monitor with his Xbox connected, which he uses to wind down in his free time. On the desk, you can see that Ceddy likes to enjoy Yerba Mate, something that he says has now become a hobby for him.

On Mitch’s side is a giant Australian flag. “The flag means a lot to me because it was a big move for me to move from Australia to here, and every day waking up and looking at the flag is like free motivation and reminds me of where I come from and why I am here at Northwood. It also gives me that home feeling whenever I feel a little homesick.

Ceddy also has a special something on the wall, a handmade bag from his brother, who is a designer in New York. He says the bag holds a lot of sentimental value.

Dorm Room Tour: Sophia Sherman ’25

Welcome to Sophia Sherman’s dorm room. Sophia Sherman is a sophomore at Northwood from Virginia. She is an independent student who does NOC and ski club. Sophia lives in a single on 2nd west.

Sophia has used a variety of colors and fun lights to make her room bright and fun. She acquired most of her decor at home from a surf shop on the beach, while other things are more personal decor items.

On the wall above her bed, she displays her prayer flags from Nepal created by monks who live near Everest and other big expedition locations. She also has the certificate she received for hiking Mt Kilimanjaro and some stickers from things she has collected.

Sophia has a record wall at the end of her bed with all her favorite albums or artists. She has a larger collection of records by her bed and a record player on the shelf by the window.

On the bulletin board at the back of Sophia’s desk, she has a variety of plane tickets from all the trips she’s done this year and polaroid photos of her friends taken from her trip to Red Rocks.

Sophia also has a trunk from her stepdad when he was in the Marine Corps. They were all issued trunks, and this trunk was given to Sophia’s mom when she was on deployment and later given to Sophia. She brings the trunk to summer camp and now to Northwood, where it serves as a storage space and a seating area.
