This past weekend Northwood’s Junior Hockey Team travelled north to Quebec, Canada to face Bishop’s College School and Stanstead College. The team faced Stanstead earlier in the season and knew that they would provide a tough opposition for Sunday’s game.

The opposition for Saturday, Bishop’s College School, had played some good hockey in recent weeks having beaten Stanstead the week before, so they were certainly not to be taken lightly. The game remained locked at 0-0 until the opening goal from Northwood when Tommy Bannister (Forward, 2020) fired a one-timer into the back of the net. The score stayed 1-0 Northwood through the second period with both teams applying pressure but the goalies proved to be solid. Northwood came out for the third period with the intention of putting the game away. Elijah Devereaux (Forward, 2020) and Reid Leibold (Forward, 2020) delivered on this promise with goals in the final stanza to end the game in a 3-0 win for the Huskies.

On Super Bowl Sunday the team faced Stanstead College. Right from the first drop of the puck Northwood was relentless in their pressure and battle level. The hard work paid off when Daniel Colabufo (Forward, 2020) provided the breakthrough goal in the first period. The second period brought the same fast-paced game as the first but it was Stanstead who would find the equalizer. Heading into the third, the score was tied at 1. The Huskies continued to consistently do all the right things. The game winner was scored when Cole Leal (DefenSe, 2019) found a gap from a tight angle. Stephen Panico (Forward, 2019) added another shortly after. The game ended 3-1 Northwood.

Today the team travels to Nichols School in Buffalo, NY. They will face Culver Academy on Friday, Shattuck St Mary’s on Saturday, and the host on Sunday.
