It was a solid first league weekend for the girls, with 3 wins and 1 tie, along with a thrilling 5-4 win in an exhibition game against non-league opponent Boston Jr. Eagles.

Coach Gilligan said, “The weekend puts the girls in a good position in the standings early on and will fuel the fire moving forward.”

Both Annette Zuck ’27 and Florence Gagnon ‘29 had great weekends between the pipes, while Kenna Gillis ‘27, Penelope St-Pierre ‘27, and Emma Hagens ‘28 led the way offensively with 5 points apiece.  The girls record currently stands at 14-5-1.

U19s lost 2-3 vs Hoosac School after having the lead 2-0 up. After witnessing a painful loss from the U19s team, the U17s had to manage getting on to the game 20min following up. Coach Marvyn said, “All players have shown great character, even though I believe this was far from our best performance. Our talented group was able to show resilience and were a great offensive threat against Hoosac.
Shout out to Paul Lahaie-Boivin ’29 for a sneaky goal to break the score in the first half. Phillipe Joly ’29 showed great physical presence and struck down the opposing defensive line by scoring two amazing goals. Our back 3 also show good decision making to keep the score at great length away from Northwood’s worry. Juan Sebastian ’29 scored his first Northwood goal by giving the strikers a rest by the end with an amazing strike to the top corner within the 18 yard box.”

Skiing

Many skiers just returned from their first on-snow training camp of the season in Chile, and it was a very productive start to the year.

Coach Cousineau said, “We had great conditions throughout the camp, which allowed the athletes to get quality volume on snow and make good progress. The camp also gave us our first opportunity to race this season, with several strong performances across the team.”

Hudson Marshall ’27 had an excellent start, earning two second-place finishes in slalom and a third-place finish in giant slalom. Sarah Decary ‘28 also started her season on a high note, winning her first slalom race of the year. Several other athletes put together strong performances and achieved some very encouraging results.

“More importantly, this camp gave us a good picture of where we are as a team and what we need to continue working on,” said Cousineau. “It was a strong first step, but there is still a lot of work ahead of us.”

Now that the skiers are back at Northwood, they have approximately one month before the Colorado camp.  Cousineau notes, “This next training block will be focused on the gym—continuing to build strength, power, fitness, and durability so that we are physically prepared to take another step forward when we get back on snow. The goal is simple: keep building. Every camp, every training session, and every day is an opportunity to improve.”

Friday night was a close checking game back and forth. The boys came out with a 4-2 win. Saturday, Prep won 6-1. Coach Mallaro said, “We played a much better team game. We executed our game plan and stuck together as a team through some adversity. Overall, a good weekend against a talented Upper Canada College—we got better as a team before we went on a short break. A great week of practice last week showed over the course of this weekend. This week is a quick turnaround, playing the weekend at South Kent in their Fall Classic tournament. It was great to play for a bigger cause this weekend, raising money for cancer research. We spoke about it as a team pre- and post-game. Keeping a good perspective was important for our guys to stay in the moment and present on a busy weekend.Very proud of their performance and the support from our school community. Go Huskies!
