Undefeated Girls’ Hockey Dominates VT Shamrocks Jamboree

(September 27-29, 2019) The girls hockey team traveled to Burlington, Vermont to participate in the Vermont Shamrocks Jamboree. The girls ended the weekend with a 4-0 sweep, scoring 37 goals and letting none in.

The first game was against the Jr. Crusaders and play was dominated by the Huskies. The final score was 22-0 with goals from Aimee Headland ‘20 (4), Marina Alvarez ‘21(2), Mackenzie Hull ‘21(4), Miranda Bookman ‘20 (2), Iliana Smith (Forward, 2022), Maggie MacNeil (Defense, 2020), Madison Novotny (Defense, 2020), Margot Rouquette (Forward, 2020), Kira Cook (Forward, 2023), and Meggan Cramer (Forward, 2021). Cook and Cramer had their first goals as a Husky.

Later that evening, the girls played the North Suburban Wings and came to the game with the same fierce energy as they had previously. Anna Pavlasova (Forward, 2023) scored her first goal as a Husky with a top shelf snipe making it a 1-0 Husky lead. Toward the end of the first, Magdalena Erbenova (Defense, 2020) scored off a pass from defensive partner Alvarez on the power play, pushing the lead to two going into the second. In the second period, the Huskies continued to capitalize on their scoring chances as Rouquette scored off a shot from the slot making it 3-0. Just a couple of minutes later the Huskies scored again as Alvarez put one in on the penalty kill. In the third, Hull and Hadley Swedlund (Forward, 2020) both recorded goals, making the final score of the game 6-0 for the Huskies. Rachel Hinkley (Goaltender, 2021) recorded the shutout in net.

The next morning, the Huskies faced off against the hosts, the Vermont Shamrocks and took control from the start. Hull scored in the first minute to give the Huskies an early lead. Later in the period, on the powerplay, Bookman scored off a shot in the slot top shelf to push the lead to 2-0. In the second, Hull, Smith, and Alvarez all scored making it 5-0 Huskies. In the third, Hull scored to complete her birthday hattrick making the final score 6-0. Venne, Hinkley, and Fairchild combined for the shutout in net.

For the final game of the weekend, the Huskies played Ontario Hockey Academy and play was buzzing for the Huskies. The team created many good plays and had lots of scoring chances on net. Pavlasova scored two goals for the Huskies and Alvarez netted a highlight reel tally top shelf to give the Huskies the 3-0 win. All three goalies again combined for the shutout in goal.
