The Girl’s Hockey Team traveled to Rochester, NY November 11-12, 2017 to compete against state rivals Selects Academy. As always, Selects brought their best, challenging the girls in all aspects of the game.
The puck dropped for the first game at 11am Saturday morning. The Selects came out of the gate strong, out-shooting the Huskies in the first, a trend that continued throughout the game. Within the last two minutes of the first, the Selects were able to put up two tallies. The intermission break gave the Huskies a chance to refresh and refocus. Thirty seconds into the second period. Sierra Benjamin (Defense, 2018) rushed the net and scored top shelf to cut the Selects lead in half. Despite the surge of energy from the Huskies, the girls were unable to come back, losing the game 1-2. Ashley Davis (Goalie, PG 2017) stopped 32 of 34 shots.

Aimee Headland ‘19 lined up at a faceoff.
The second game of the weekend proved to be a rebound game for the Huskies. The girls dominated the play and controlled it in the offensive zone for a majority of the game. Aimee Headland (Forward, 2019) scored twenty seconds into the game off a turnover on the offensive blue line. Selects responded twice in the first to take the lead at 1-2. The Huskies continued to fight through as Hanna Rose (Defense, 2018) fired a shot from the point, top shelf, knotting the score at 2-2. The girls out-shot Selects but ultimately a dirty hit on Headland ended the game with just over 9 minutes left in the third. Courtney Fairchild (Goalie, 2020) stopped 12 of 14 shots.
Headland was taken away in an ambulance as a precaution. She is doing well and is expected to be back on the ice this week.
With this weekend’s results, the Huskies move to 15-4-2 on the season. Next weekend the girls will travel to Boston, MA to face off against the East Coast Wizards.
