(November 4-6, 2016) The Junior Team traveled to Minnesota this weekend to take on some tough competition in the CCM Invitational. In the first game the Huskies prevailed over the Tier 1 Elite League All Stars 7-2. The Husky offense clicked against a good Tier 1 team and Matt Petizian was good in net to secure the victory. On Saturday the boys took on Shattuck St Mary’s and fell 5-4. Penalties haunted the Huskies and Shattuck capitalized for three power play goals. Late into the third period Shattuck was up 5-2 before Kaden Pickering (forward, 2017) found the back of the net on a backhander and Jesper Peltonen (defense, 2017) connected on the power play with less than a minute to go. The boys sustained continuous pressure for the last few minutes of the game but could not complete the comeback. In the final game Sunday Northwood beat the Minnesota Red All Star team 6-1 to capture third place with Petizian shutting the door in net again. Kaden Pickering (2), Kevin Lombardi (forward, 2017), Jack Dugan (forward, 2017), Aleksi Peltonen (forward, 2017), and Wyatt Wilmshurst (forward, 2017) notched goals for Northwood. Coach Cassidy was pleased with his tams performance on the weekend, saying, “This was a very positive weekend for our team. We faced off against our stiffest competition of the season, our team came away with two wins in three games. These games will prepare us well for our run to Christmas break.”
