William Schneid ‘25 was a student-athlete for two years at Northwood and played on the Prep hockey team, where he was an assistant captain in his senior year. Schneid was also a member of the Head’s Council and a resident assistant (RA). He now plays for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and is committed to play Division 1 hockey at the University of Connecticut.

Scheid says Northwood prepared him for the fast pace of junior hockey. “Juniors is definitely a faster-paced game with less time and space to make plays; however, I feel the intensity with which we practiced and played at Northwood helped prepare me for the season.”

Will has been experiencing some recent success so far in his start with the Barrie Colts, scoring two goals in their first home game of the season against the Guelph Storm and defeating them 6-2 in a sold-out Sadlon Arena. Will is currently only playing hockey and not taking any classes before he heads to college, but he has been enjoying the extra downtime. “So far, I’ve been going on a daily walk where I usually call a friend or my parents. Other than that, I’ve just been using the downtime to relax and recover from the days that are pretty taxing to make sure that I am ready to go for the next day.”

Will was a leader on campus and represented the qualities of a Northwood student. He was always a fun person to be around and create memories with. He’s happy where he is, but he still misses Northwood. “I certainly miss the boys and just being able to hang with my best friends every day. The people are truly what make Northwood such a place, so I’m definitely missing them a whole lot.”
