The Girl’s Hockey team traveled to Burlington, VT last weekend and took home the championship after winning all four games. The weekend included three preliminary games Friday and Saturday, followed by the championship on Sunday morning.
In the first match Friday night, the girls won 8-0 against the Montclair Blues. Five different Huskies got a tally. The scoring was early and often. Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) and Nikki Kendrick (Forward, 2018) got two a piece. Sierra Benjamin (Defense, 2018), Miranda Bookman (Forward 2020), Keeley Rose (Forward, 2018), and Aimee Headland (Forward, 2019) added one a piece to complete the 8-0 win. Ashley Davis (Goalie, 2017 PG) and Olivia Skriloff (Goalie, 2018) combined for the shutout.
The following morning the Huskies faced off against the Vermont Shamrocks. Getting the first goal was a challenge for the huskies against a strong goaltender. It wasn’t until the end of the first that Kylie Kroes (Forward, 2018) was able to capitalize on a rebound to break the ice. Later on, Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) netted two more to raise the total to 3-0. Courtney Fairchild (Goalie, 2020) recorded the shutout.
After a short two hour break the Huskies were back on the ice to face off against St. Lawrence Steele. The girls ramped up the offense after falling down 0-1 early in the first. Six unanswered goals came from four different players. Lexi Hooper (Forward/Defense 2020) put in three to earn her first Northwood hattrick. Nikki Kendrick (Forward, 2018), Sierra Benjamin (Defense, 2018), and Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) added one apiece for a 6-1 comeback win. Ashley Davis (Goalie, 2017 PG) stopped 18 of 19 shots.
Sunday morning the Huskies took the ice for the championship game against the home team, the Vermont Shamrocks. Only seconds into the game Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) threw a shot five hole to immediately put the huskies up 1-0. From there on the Huskies took advantage offensively and put in six more for a 7-0 total. Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) added 3 more throughout the game, totalling at four. Marina Alvarez (Defense, 2021) got her first Northwood goal from the point, while Nikki Kendrick (Forward, 2018) and Keeley Rose (Forward, 2018) also added a goal apiece. Ashley Davis (Goalie, 2017 PG) stopped all 19 shots for the shutout.
With this weekend’s wins, the Huskies move to 6-2 on the season. The girls will be hosting Cornwall this coming Saturday for a Family Weekend game at the Olympic Center.
