Girls Hockey Optimistic After Winless Weekend

The girls hockey team traveled to Syracuse this weekend (9/24-25) to take on the Niagara Junior Purple Eagles. Both games took place on Saturday. They tied the first game 2-2 with Sierra Benjamin (Forward, 2018) striking for both goals, her first unassisted and second from Lauren Klein (Forward, PG) and Hanna Rose (Defense, 2018). Hanna Markel (Goal, 2017) saw her first action of the season between the pipes and earned the tie.

In the second game, the Huskies went down 2-0 before Benjamin scored again, this time from Moe Tsukimoto (Forward, 2018) and Hanna Rose, and then Tsukimoto notched an unassisted shorthanded tally to tie the game up at 2 before the Junior Purple Eagles scored to win the game 3-2.

Head Coach Ms. Lucy Schoedel said that “both games were really well-matched, exciting games- both games really could have gone either way.”  She was pleased with the way the team responded to going down 2-0 in the second game saying, “I think it shows we have a group of tough, tenacious athletes that won’t quit.” There are a couple bumps to smooth out, but Coach Schoedel is optimistic for the rest of the season and believes she has a strong team. “The girls worked really hard,” said Schoedel. They just need to work smarter.  Typical early season stuff. I’ve got all of the faith in the world in this group, and I think we have a lot to look forward to.”

The girls are 2-1-1 for the season.
