On their first day, the boys faced Guanacaste U17 and prevailed in a hard-fought match, winning 5-2. The game started off with the lads down 2-0 through the opening thirty minutes. Just before the half, Hamish Riddell ‘26 was subbed on and pulled one back, making it 2-1 at the half. The second half was much more fruitful, with many goals for Northwood’s side.

Game two was against the top Costa Rican professional team, Liga Deportivo Alajuelense. The game was hosted at the club’s elite practice facilities, boasting 3 pristine grass fields, one turf field, and a gym. This opponent was much tougher than the first game, and the first-half scoreline proved that; at halftime, the game was tied 2-2 – with goals from Jett Jewett ’27 and Thiago Cesar ‘26. The 17s controlled the ball well and capitalized on a set piece and a quick buildup to score their 2. The second half was a dogfight; LDA had brought on a new starting 11 with fresh legs. After going up 3-2 due to Riddell’s weak-footed goal, the boys remained solid defensively, pulling through in the end, prevailing 3-2.

Off the pitch, the boys have spent time at Occidental Tamarindo – a beachside resort. They have now traveled to the heart of Costa Rica, San José, to experience more of the culture.
