The Boys Prep Hockey team began their season a couple of weeks ago. They’ve played 5 games since coming back, and their current record is 4-1.

“The Team has been good. I think we have a lot of potential to be very good, and we have a lot of good younger players, and we have a lot to learn this year under Coach Mallaro,” Ritter Coombs ’25 said.

Head Coach Steve Mallaro is pleased with his team so far. “All of our games thus far have been exciting, and it has been fun to work with this group. We have a lot of new faces, but we are growing together. We did our first Cobble hike as a team yesterday; the guys were very excited. We are all anxious for Formal Dinner and Mountain Day,” Mallaro said.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Mallaro is optimistic. “We have our first two Prep Hockey Conference games at home this weekend versus Mount St. Charles from Rhode Island. They are always a tough opponent and should be a great game,” he said.

Mallaro said many players have been contributing to the team’s success. “I am not sure if I can single out any one player,” he said. “I really believe that the success of any individual is the success of the team first. If we work together towards a common goal or theme, we have won,” Mallaro said.

Teamwork is a theme of this year’s team. “It is important in our sport to remember that there is one puck and five guys working together sharing one important piece of the game, the puck! We have some outstanding students and character people right now. We want to keep pushing them to reach their potential, but at the same time know that it takes patience from the players and coaching staff,” Mallaro added.

Mallaro and his team are eager for this weekend’s Prep Hockey Conference opener. “We only have a couple of days to prepare for our league games this weekend. It will be important to stay focused and cover the fundamentals,” he said. Mallaro identified the fundamentals as “Consistently getting better at the simple things, every day. It can get boring, but it leads to team success and then individual accolades. We are excited and hoping that everyone will come out to watch our games this weekend. We have two more home games the following week at the start of Family Weekend versus Stanstead College from Quebec,” noted Mallaro.

Husky Nation expects the Prep Hockey team to continue to impress us, Be sure to go watch and support them this weekend for their first League games.
