All three boys’ hockey teams recently traveled to South Kent School for two games apiece. Unfortunately, they went 2-4 over those six games.
Prep Team
This weekend was huge for the Prep team as their league play winds down. Entering the weekend, the Prep team was fifth in the Prep Hockey Conference (PHC) and second in the East Division, behind South Kent School. On Saturday, Northwood got off to a hot start, taking a 2-0 lead, thanks to Anton Stackow ‘27 and a shorthanded goal from Charles Pigeon ‘26. However, the 3rd period was all South Kent. They roared back and scored 3 straight goals, winning 3-2. On Sunday, it was the opposite. South Kent got off to a hot start and took a 2-0 lead heading into the 3rd period. Then, Casey Morrissey ‘27 banged in a rebound goal to make it 2-1. Despite a power play and pulling their goalie, Northwood could not prevail, and South Kent won 2-1. Despite going 0-2 on the weekend, the Huskies are looking to bounce back strong this weekend at home in their last PHC regular season games against Mount St. Charles Academy.
“This weekend sucked, but I know that we will bounce back against Mount this weekend. There is no time to dwell on this weekend, just learn from our mistakes and get our mojo back heading into the playoffs and the end of the season,” said Zack Klaich ‘26.
Varsity Team
Varsity rolled into South Kent hungry for two wins. On Saturday night, the boys got off to possibly the hottest start possible. The Huskies scored 5 straight goals in the 1st period and never looked back. South Kent stayed in the game, but the Huskies did not let them get any hope. A big game from goaltender Luke Hurlbut ‘26 and a 4-point game from defenseman Drew Tulloch ‘26 propelled Northwood to a big 7-5 win. On Sunday, the game was dominated by South Kent. Entering the 3rd period, South Kent had a 5-1 lead. But the Huskies did not give up, battling back to make it 5-4 with 2 minutes left to play. Despite pulling their goalie at the end, they could not find the back of the net, and South Kent ultimately won 5-4. Varsity has an off weekend as the school goes on break and is looking to rest up before heading to Avon Old Farms.
“This was a solid weekend. I am happy with how the boys played, especially on Saturday. We got down on Sunday, but did not quit, and that is how we have been all year. This break is huge for our recovery before we head to Avon,” said Jack Ide ‘26.
U16 Team
The U16 team had its sights set on revenge at South Kent. On Saturday, the game was constant back-and-forth action. An outstanding game by goaltender Everett Marin ‘28 led Northwood to a 3-2 victory. On Sunday, it was a different story. South Kent came out flying and gave Northwood no breathing room. Heading into the 3rd period, South Kent led 5-1. However, the Huskies went to work, and Chase Brock ‘27 tied it on the power play late. Unfortunately, South Kent scored with 3 minutes left to take a 6-5 lead, then scored an empty-netter to win 7-5. The 16s have an off weekend and are resting before their league playoffs at Nichols School.
“We played very well this weekend, and it is huge for our confidence as a team. South Kent smoked us earlier in the season, so it was great to see how much we have improved since then. We have playoffs in a couple of weeks, so we need to get ready for that,” said Will French ‘27.
