During Christmas break, the ski team was very busy training at Whiteface. They competed at the beginning of the break, spent time at home for about a week, and then came back to train and race at the end of the break. The FIS women had a busy schedule this break.

The team had four races at Stratton Mountain, Vermont, at the beginning of the break. They traveled to the ski hill after classes on Wednesday, December 18th, and raced for four days following. The team succeeded at these races, with Julianne Brochu ‘25 placing 2nd U18 and 1st U18 on the first two days of the competition and Leanne Aubut-Laurin ‘26 placing 3rd U18 on the second day. Julianne was also 1st U18 on the third day. After Stratton, the team traveled home for some much-needed rest and time with family. On the 29th, they returned to Northwood, ready to return to action.

They trained for three days at Whiteface and raced five days at Whiteface following. Julianne Brochu ‘25 placed 1st U18 on the first and second day of competition, and Leanne Aubut-Laurin 3rd U18 on the first.

The U16 girls also trained over break and stayed at Northwood. Riley Ward, ‘27, said that her time on snow during this period was very beneficial because it allowed her to focus strictly on skiing for a few solid days. She was happy she had this training block before school started up again.

Cara Dempsey ‘25, a FIS woman, really enjoyed training during the break. Whiteface did a great job getting our race hill, Drapers, open for us to use during this time, and she commented that the team was fortunate with the weather.

Overall, the Alpine ski team had an excellent training and racing block during Christmas break and is looking forward to continuing to perform this season.
